Legendary quarterback-turned-analyst Tom Brady is navigating new territory this NFL season, trading in his helmet and cleats for a microphone and headset as he takes on a fresh role in the broadcast booth for Fox Sports. Instead of chasing Super Bowl titles, Brady is now tasked with breaking down the on-field action for viewers, offering his expert insights alongside veteran play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt.
However, through the first seven weeks of the 2024 NFL season, Brady has faced a different kind of challenge—not the intricacies of broadcasting, but rather the lack of drama in the games he’s been assigned to call.
“All these games I’ve gone into—I’ve done seven games now. I’ve had six blowouts, essentially, and the home team has only won one game,” Brady shared during his recent appearance on the Let’s Go! podcast. “I can’t wait until I get a home team [playing] in a close game with a lot of juice in the stadium.”
Brady kicked off his broadcasting career this season by covering the Dallas Cowboys’ first three games. Since then, he’s called a series of lopsided matchups, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ dominant win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4, and the Arizona Cardinals’ thrilling but rare upset of the San Francisco 49ers in Week 5.
The last two weeks, he was on the mic as the Detroit Lions crushed the Cowboys, followed by the Kansas City Chiefs dismantling the 49ers.

So far, only two of the seven games Brady has announced have been decided by a single possession. One of those—the Cowboys’ 28–25 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3—wasn’t quite as close as the final score suggests. Dallas trailed 28–6 before mounting a late but ultimately futile comeback, cutting the deficit to three points in the closing minutes without ever threatening to take the lead.
Despite the lack of nail-biters, Brady insists he’s still enjoying his new role in the broadcast booth. “It’s been really fun to sit and watch these games from the 50-yard line,” he said. “Although I’d much prefer to be on the field playing, because it’s a lot more fun down there… but just watching from above and seeing how these guys are performing is pretty cool.”
Brady’s enthusiasm for the job is evident, but he’s clearly itching to call a more competitive game—one that comes down to the wire and captures the excitement that fans and players alike crave.
His next opportunity comes in Week 8 when the Seattle Seahawks face off against the Buffalo Bills at Lumen Field. Both teams are known for their electric home-field atmospheres and strong fan support, so Brady is hopeful this matchup will deliver the kind of thrilling showdown he’s been waiting for.
As Brady continues to hone his broadcasting skills, fans are eager to see how the seven-time Super Bowl champion adapts to his new role, particularly as he balances the highs and lows of covering games that don’t always live up to the excitement of his playing days.
