Yellowstone prequel 1923 is back on The Paramount Network and Paramount Plus and it sees Jack Dutton (played by Darren Mann) helping Jacob (Harrison Ford) as he runs some errands in the town. Darren has been a part of the series since the prequel’s inception and his character has been through a great deal already.
Darren is a 35-year-old Canadian actor who is best known for his roles in the films Giant Little Ones and Embattled. His portrayal of Ballas Kohl in Giant Little Ones earned him a Leo Award.
On TV, viewers may recognise him as Luke Chalfant in the Netflix series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. The star is from East Vancouver and he was born to mother Lenore Mann, who is an actress and director.
Darren, who also has a brother called Tyler, was inspired by his mother to take up acting and he started at the age of eight. He landed a few stage and film roles, but believed sport was his true passion.
He loved hockey and took a break from acting to pursue the sport, quickly climbing the ranks before turning professional. However, he was forced to retire aged 21 after sustaining and injury and went back to acting.
He had played briefly for the Indiana Blizzard in the now-defunct All American Hockey League.
Darren spoke to the Vancouver Sun about his childhood ahead of his role in Embattled and explained the script had some reminders of his own early life.
He said: “Growing up I had an older brother that took me absolutely everywhere with him and we didnt have a dad growing up.
“My mom had to work whatever job she could so we could play hockey and stuff. I was really blessed with a really great role model of a brother.
“In some ways I actually got to channel a little bit of my own brother and what that was like.”
He also revealed how his father had struggled with drugs and alcohol and “wasn’t the most reliable”.
As for his relationships, Darren is married to Jesi Deemann and they celebrated their wedding anniversary in December 2024.
On Instagram he said: “I can’t wait to continue this wonderful adventure together.”
1923 airs on The Paramount Network and Paramount Plus on Sundays
