David Hekili Kenui Bell, the beloved Hawaiian actor who recently made his big-screen debut in Disneys live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch, has tragically passed away at the age of 46. Davids sister, Jalene Kanani Bell, broke the heartbreaking news in a moving Facebook post, calling her brother the joy of a human, and Prince of a Man.
My sweet, generous, talented, funny, brilliant, and handsome little brother will spend today in the company of our Heavenly Father, she wrote.
Though the siblings didnt grow up together, Jalene revealed that meeting David on her high school graduation day was the most amazing surprise, and the bond they built was unshakable.
While I didnt grow up with a father, David gave me all the unconditional love I could ask for.
A Star on the Rise and in the Community
David Hekili Kenui Bell had recently taken the leap into major film with his role in Disneys Lilo & Stitch, which premiered in theaters May 23, 2025. His pride was palpable: according to Jalene, David bought the best seats in the house so his loved ones could sit together and celebrate his milestone on opening night.
Seeing the fans dressed in Lilo & Stitch gear had us so energized, she recalled.Afterward, we went for shave ice a little tradition in honor of the film and of David himself.
His final social media post reflected that same joy a lighthearted repost from Fandango showing him enjoying shave ice with the caption:
Whenever Im having a bad day, I think of this guy.To which David replied: Thanks Fandango! I think?
More Than an Actor A Voice and a Presence
In addition to film, David lent his voice to Kona Airports PA system, a role he cherished as part of creating a warm welcome for visitors to Hawaii. He also appeared on hit TV series including Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum P.I., and in commercials for Kona Brewing.
He embodied the true meaning of Aloha, said his agent, Lashauna Downie, who described him as one of her most cherished clients.
Jalene added that David loved social media and storytelling and that she plans to keep sharing his words and photos in the days ahead.
