D.J. Tanner and Kimmy Gibbler are the true definition of BFFs.
On a recent episode of How Rude, Tanneritos! — a Full House recap podcast hosted by Jodie Sweetin, who played Stephanie Tanner, and Andrea Barber, who portrayed Gibbler — another star from the beloved sitcom stepped in.
Candace Cameron Bure took over hosting duties for Sweetin while she was traveling, and during the episode, Bure and Barber talked about how their friendship transcended TV and has continued for decades offscreen.
The pair greeted each other, “Hi, D.J.! Hi, Kimmy!” laughing as Cameron Bure asked, “Does everyone know that we call each other Kimmy and D.J.?”

“I don’t know. If they don’t, they do now,” Barber replied. “That we literally call each other that every time we see each other.”
“Every time we see each other,” Cameron Bure confirmed, then explaining how their friendly tradition was noticed by a fellow ’90s actor during their appearance at 90s Con.
“Jaleel White, who, of course, played Urkel, was there and…he stopped in his tracks and he was like, ‘Whoa, what? Did you, for real, just call each other your character names?’ “
She added, “It was weird to him but not to us.”
During their 90s Con appearance in September, Cameron Bure and Barber were joined by Sweetin and Dave Coulier, who played Joey Gladstone. There, they discussed where they thought their characters would be today.
Bure, 48, said, “I think that D.J. and Steve are together, raising her kids and just living their best karaoke life.”
Barber, also 48, says D.J.’s eccentric BFF Kimmy would be “an empty-nester.” With her daughter Ramona in college now, she’d be “knitting with cats.”
“And you have a nest full of ostrich eggs,” joked Coulier, 65.
