Dearest gentle reader, it’s time to rejoice as Bridgerton season 4 is officially in the works!
On Christmas Day, Netflix treated members of the ton to behind-the-scenes photos of the cast at a table read for the next installment of the hit regency drama in a post shared on Instagram.
The carousel of images featured season 4 leads Luke Thompson (Benedict Bridgerton) and Yerin Ha (Sophie Baek) grinning from ear-to-ear as they posed for a picture. Other photos showed other cast members including Adjoa Andoh (Lady Danbury), Ruth Gemmell (Violet Bridgerton), Martins Imhangbe (Will Mondrich) and Victor Alli (John Stirling), smiling and laughing as they read through their lines at the read.
In another photo, newcomers Katie Leung (Lady Araminta Gun) and Isabella Wei (Posy Li) smiled for a selfie while Gemmell and her onscreen daughters Hannah Dodd (Francesca Sterling) and Florence Hunt (Hyacinth Bridgerton) also posed for a picture.
“Rejoice for it is the season of joy and merriment!” the streamer captioned the post.
Bridgerton‘s fourth season will center around the family’s second eldest brother, Benedict, and his love story with a maid named Sophie.
According to the show’s official logline, the two characters will meet at a masquerade ball thrown by Bridgerton matriarch Violet after Sophie “disguises herself to attend,” despite not being a usual guest at high society events.
“As a victim of tragic events, Sophie has been forced to spend much of her life working for the most demanding employer in the ton. But the resourceful Sophie always finds a way to persevere through her circumstances,” a description of the character reads.
Netflix announced in August that Ha would be this season’s love interest and that October, she told Netflix’s Tudum that she was initially drawn to Sophie due to the “obstacles” she faces, whether it be “this battle around social status or trying to hide her feelings from Benedict.”
Though the season is based on Julia Quinn‘s novel, An Offer from a Gentleman, from her Bridgerton book series, season 4 will feature a name change from Sophie Beckett to Baek to honor the actress’ Korean heritage.
“To make Sophie’s name fit someone who looks like me is really empowering,” Ha admitted. “It’s a really nice way for me to feel like the role is fit for me, rather than me having to fit a certain mold.”
