The Kansas City Chiefs will welcome back star running back Isiah Pacheco after missing the last nine games, being injured for much of the season after going down in week two.

The Chiefs have a 10-1 record so far this season but have severely missed Pacheco’s rushing ability while having to rely on Patrick Mahomes‘ arm throughout the year. The former seventh-round running back has been a big part of the Chiefs’ offense that has won back-to-back Super Bowls, with them set to get the 25-year-old back heading into the final few games of the regular season.

The Chiefs have activated Pacheco, as well as pass-rusher Charles Omenihu, who they signed to a significant contract last season before he suffered an ACL tear in the AFC Championship game win over the Baltimore Ravens.

Pacheco had undergone surgery to repair his fractured fibula after week two, placing him on the injury report after he rushed for 135 yards and one touchdown on 34 carries while also catching seven passes for 54 yards in their first two games.

After his injury, the Chiefs had turned to undrafted rookie Carson Steele to be their go-to guy before he and backup Samaje Perine struggled to nail down the starting job.

This led to the Chiefs re-signing Kareem Hunt, who they had for his impressive rookie season in 2017, when he lead the NFL in rushing yards. Hunt spent five years with the Cleveland Browns, before becoming a free agent this offseason and signing for Chiefs after Pacheco’s injury. Hunt has performed admirably in lieu of Pacheco, with 577 rushing yards and five touchdowns, but it’s likely he’ll take a backseat once he returns.

Omeinhu, meanwhile, was a starting pass-rusher for Kansas City last season before his injury, joining from rival San Francisco 49ers on a two-year, $20 million deal.

He’ll likely step in as a rotational player, hoping to play his way back into full health before the playoffs begin in January, with Kansas City looking to secure the number one seed, with the postseason going through Arrowhead Stadium in the AFC.
