D.J. Reed took to social media to express his displeasure after the Jets’ loss to the Seahawks in Week 13 — and he didn’t subtweet anyone or use a cryptic emoji or GIF. Reed made it extremely clear he was upset with the officiating in the game.

 

The Jets lost 26-21, with the Seahawks scoring the go-ahead touchdown with 5:34 left in the game. New York put together a 13-play drive late in the fourth, but it ended with a turnover on downs as quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw an incomplete pass to Garrett Wilson.

Almost everything has gone wrong for New York this season on its way to a 3-9 record, and while many people have searched for the party to blame, Reed solved that problem, at least in terms of the Week 13 loss. He took to social media and didn’t use many words to insult the officiating crew, but he got his point across.

Reed kept it short and sweet when calling out the refs. He didn’t mince words, and while Rodgers blamed the wind for the final incompletion of the game, Reed put the overall loss on the refs.

It’s hard to figure out what exactly prompted Reed to post about the refs. The Jets did have 12 penalties called against them, resulting in a loss of 83 yards. Conversely, the Seahawks had five penalties for 50 yards. Reed himself was called for defensive holding in the first quarter, but it was just a five-yard penalty on first down.

The final Seattle drive was riddled with New York penalties. On 4th-and-6, the Jets were called for too many men on the field and then a 20-yard defensive pass interference. Later, on a subsequent fourth down, Solomon Thomas was flagged for a horse collar tackle that gave Seattle not only a first down but the ball on the Jets’ 17. Two plays later, Will McDonald was called offside on 3rd-and-6, and the Seahawks scored the game-winning touchdown the next play.

 

Reed was likely the most upset over the horse collar tackle penalty, but it could have been the cumulative buildup of all the flags on New York. Garrett Wilson responded to Reed’s tweet, showing his teammate some love, but Reed has since deleted the tweet. That likely won’t stop the fine coming from the league office next week.
