Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin met face-to-face for the first time since 2019 as the leaders arrived in Alaska to discuss the Ukrainian War on Friday (August 15).
Historic photos captured Trump and the Russian leader shaking hands and grinning at the cameras, where the US President sparked health concerns and even turned stomachs with his ‘sickening’ gesture towards Putin. Just hours after their summit aimed at reaching a peace deal over Ukraine, the 79-year-old had an uncomfortable response to the Russian President’s four-word request at the gathering. Footage of the exchange became a sensation on X, previously known as Twitter, with viewers believing Trump is “being played”.
Following the disclosure that certain understandings had been reached, though no formal agreement was established, Trump remarked: “We had some good meetings over the years and we hope to have that in the future.
“But let’s do the most productive one right now.”
The 72-year-old Russian leader responded: “Again, Mr President, thank you very much.
“And we’ll speak to you very soon and probably see you again very soon. Next time in Moscow.”
Trump’s expression immediately shifted as he answered: “Oh, that’s an interesting one. I’ll get a little heat on that one.”
Footage of the exchange was posted on X with the headline: “President Putin tells President Trump in English to come visit Moscow next.
“This is a HUGE sign of respect. Peace is coming!”
After accumulating 347,000 views and hundreds of responses, people weighed in on the moment. One said: “Putin is playing Trump like a pawnshop banjo. While he is inviting Trump to Moscow he’s cluster bombing Ukrainian apartment complexes.”
Another pointed out: “I think it’s the first time I’ve heard him speak in English in front of the press.”

The pair had been involved in a string of discussions hoping to broker a peace agreement to bring the Ukrainian conflict to an end.
They seemed like old friends as the duo strolled down the red carpet towards Mr Trump’s awaiting Presidential limousine.
Their behavior made a positive impact in Russia, where pro-government outlets hailed the “warm” welcome.
