Dallas Cowboys defender Micah Parsons is never one to shy away from a spicy take. Despite the 2024 NFL MVP debate squaring around Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and Baltimore Ravens signal-caller Lamar Jackson, the Dallas edge rusher offered a different answer to who is the best quarterback in the league (he also ignored his own QB: Dak Prescott).
“This version of Joe Burrow is the best quarterback in the NFL,” Parsons admitted on a recent episode of his podcast ‘The Edge with Micah Parsons.’
“This healthy Joe Burrow, the anticipation, his IQ… If you talk about who’s playing the best quarterback football right now, Joe Shiesty. He’s the best quarterback in the NFL,” he continued.
Burrow recently pioneered a 27-20 victory over Parsons and company, completing 33 of his 44 passes for 369 yards and three touchdowns in the victory.
His Cincinnati Bengals side has somehow struggled – a poor defense sees them at 7-8 and fighting for their playoff lives. The Bengals must win their next two games and hope other results go their way to sneak into the postseason.
Don’t blame Burrow: the former first-overall pick has thrown for a league-leading 4229 passing yards and 39 TDs to just eight interceptions.
“He’s averaging close to 300 yards per game,” Parsons noticed. “He’s leading the NFL in everything. It’s hard not to give him the MVP. You put him on any other defense, a top defense in the league and he’ll beat anybody by a mile.”
The Dallas star is right: Burrow’s 281.9 yards per game average is the best in the league. It helps when he’s throwing to star wideout Ja’Marr Chase – he’s averaging over 100 yards per contest in his own right.
Parsons has missed a handful of games this season with nagging injuries but has salvaged his numbers in recent weeks – the Dallas edge rusher is up to 9.5 socks in 11 games.
The Cowboys have the same record as Burrow’s Bengals at 7-8 but have officially been eliminated from the playoff picture. The team has missed starting quarterback Dak Prescott for half the season.
Prescott will start a four-year, $240 million fully-guaranteed contract extension next season, locking Dallas into a signal-caller many have deemed as a postseason underachiever for the long-term future.
Meanwhile, Burrow is regarded as one of the strongest playoff performers in recent memory. On top of a 5-2 postseason record, the Bengals signal caller led his team to the Super Bowl in just his second season.
