The New York Jets are without a general manager after parting ways with Joe Douglas midweek, prompting former ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III to recommend an old colleague for the job.
Griffin III advocated for current ESPN analyst Louis Riddick for the job on X Monday afternoon. “The Jets need a GM who the media will respect and if they don’t he won’t give a damn. That’s @LRiddickESPN,” the second overall pick in the 2012 draft posted.
“Louis has deep knowledge of the college prospects, evolution of the pro game and has zero doubt in what a team needs to build a champion. Let him pick his coach and his QB.”

Riddick, a ninth-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers in the 1991 NFL Draft, played for the Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns, and Oakland Raiders as a cornerback.
He joined the then-Washington Redskins as a scout in 2001 before earning a promotion to director of pro personnel in 2005. He would later hold an identical position with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Riddick joined ESPN shortly after and is currently a color commentator on the network’s #2 NFL broadcast team. He’s reportedly interviewed for general managerial roles with the New York Giants in 2017 and the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022.

Per Jay Glazer of Fox, Jets owner Woody Johnson landed at the team’s practice on a helicopter. Douglas reportedly turned to interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich and said “If they pull me off the practice field, it’s been an honor serving with you.” He was dismissed shortly after.
Douglas signed a six-year deal with the franchise ahead of the 2019 season, inheriting second-year signal-caller Sam Darnold. The offense grew stale and the team pivoted to Zach Wilson in 2021 before trading for Aaron Rodgers in 2023.
He finished his tenure with a record of 30-64. His most recent head coach, Robert Saleh, was dismissed earlier this season. The Jets are 3-8 and have lost seven of their last eight games.

Johnson will hire former GM Mike Tannenbaum’s firm “The 33rd Team” to help lead the search for the next General Manager. Tannenbaum held the position from 2006 to 2012.
Griffin III worked at ESPN as both an NFL and college football analyst following the end of his NFL career. He was laid off by the network in August amid a string of personnel changes.
“Thankful for so many people in my time at ESPN that helped me grow because they are some of the best in the business,” Griffin III tweeted after the news was released.
