The New York Yankees want to add a 28th ring to its prestigious trophy cabinet against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2024 World Series. With Game 1 fast approaching this Friday, the Bronx Bombers are in a position to claim their first title since 2009.

Since its establishment in 1903, the same year that MLB merged the National and American leagues, New York has had some of the most powerful, notable, and historic players in MLB history. The team’s foundation was established with its first world title in 1923, but a new boom occurred in 1927.

The 1927 Yankees were led by six National Baseball Hall of Fame members, starting with Babe Ruth, recognized as one of the greatest players in the game’s history. Other Hall of Famers on the team included Earle Combs, Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri, Waite Hoyt, and Herb Pennock.

At that time, the 32-year-old Ruth was the fifth oldest member of the team roster while still being one of its most productive. He led the team with 60 home runs that season, the ninth-best.

The batting lineup of Combs at the leadoff, followed by Koenig, Ruth, Gehrig, Meusel, and Lazzeri, was dubbed “Muderers’ Row” for its seemingly neverending home run threats, along with the later renditions of the Yanknees throughout the 1920s.

Team manager Miller Huggins led New York to a 110-44-1 record, an American League pennant, and a World Series title. The Yankees swept the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-0 in the series.
